The early days1933-1947
Foundation
In 1936, Furuta Jimusho (which later became the Nippon Petroleum Company) opened for business and started sales of petroleum products. The following year saw set about producing grease, developing neck grease.
Neck grease was indispensable to the neck of the roll in manual steel hot-rolling equipment.
After the war, the petroleum industry was strictly controlled, and employees had to work hard to keep the Company in business.

Reconstruction period1948-1985
Reconstruction after the war
In 1948, it made a fresh start as Nippon Koyu Shokai (later renamed Nippon Koyu Ltd.) and succeeded in manufacturing calcium-based grease and lithium grease that it had worked to develop. These evolved into star products such as NIPPECO MP and NIPPECO S, a heat-resistant, high-grade grease product.
As large-scale industrial complexes sprang up nationwide in the 1960s and the ensuing years, the Company met growing demand by expanding its manufacturing equipment and launching product transport using Japan's first grease containers.
Reconstruction after the war
Keeping pace with Japan's rapid economic growth, the Company developed its business vigorously.
Period of transformation1986-2000
Strengthening production capabilities and tackling new fields
Striving to meet increasing orders, the Company opted to reinforce its production capabilities. It launched projects to strengthen the special manufacturing equipment at its head office plant (Tokyo Plant) and build a new plant (the current Okayama Plant), drastically increasing its ability to produce special-purpose products.
As the specter of recession descended on Japan and the rest of the world, the Company ventured into new fields to create new special-purpose greases, acquire new customers and increase sales.

Renamed NIPPECO to take a new step forward
Our sales personnel and engineers combined their talents to develop new fields and special products. Their efforts have borne fruit, laying the foundation for future business expansion.
To ensure future growth, we built the Chiba Plant according to the concept of an "environmentally conscious, highly productive plant that produces top-quality products." Together with the Okayama Plant, which has celebrated its 20th anniversary, the Chiba Plant establishes a powerful production system with bases covering both eastern and western Japan.
In fiscal 2012, Nippon Koyu Ltd. made a new start by renaming itself NIPPECO Ltd. after NIPPECO, a proud brand that it had long used for its products and remained an industry favorite.

Specializing in grease, NIPPECO is a company with a history stretching back more than 80 years.
It is our belief that delivering a stable and continuous supply of products is the mission of all manufacturers. As globalization progresses, in order to quickly meet the needs of our customers inside and outside Japan, NIPPECO is continuing to grow as a company that helps our customers by ensuring stable product supply and surging further ahead of the competition in research and development.
